Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests indicate the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A senior political figure said the attack made him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
